In the marine electronics service field immediate attention is guaranteed by our 24 hour availability. Marine electronic navigation and communication equipment can be installed, commissioned, maintained or repaired in any port in South or Southern Africa, off port limits at sea or during coastwise passage between Cape Town and Durban. SMD’s service is backed up by a large spare part inventory as well as specialised test equipment. Well equipped workshops, with factory trained staff are maintained in the three major ports in South Africa, Durban, Richards Bay and Cape Town.

To stay abreast of technological advancement regular training courses, in house as well as factory training courses abroad support the technical capabilities of our employees.

SMD are approved Service Providers to carry out Safety Radio Surveys as well as EPIRB, VDR, SSAS, and AIS inspections for American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), Bureau Veritas (BV), Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Germanischer Lloyd (GL), Lloyds Register (LR), Class NK and RINA.
