McMurdo Smartfind E5.
The New Generation
406MHz Satellite EPIRB.
Meeting the demands of both recreational boaters and
deep sea ships, the new McMurdo Smartfind heralds the arrival of
the next generation in EPIRB Technology.
The GMDSS rules require all vessels over 300gt to
carry a float free EPIRB. This has been extended by the South African
Authorities to include fishing vessels and now also includes leisure
craft and small commercial vessels in Category A which are licensed
to operate more than 40 miles offshore. By July 2006 this would
also have included craft in Category B & C which are licensed
to operate between 5 and 40 miles offshore. However SAMSA has granted
an extension until June 2007 for these classes of vessel, see News.
McMurdos EPIRB features a compact and
functional design with a small mounting footprint.
- GMDSS compliant, EU wheelmark and SAMSA approved
- Satellite location, Global distress alerting
- Unique Carrysafe bracket for transportation of the
manual unit
- Small and lightweight
- Fully enclosed housing for Float Free version
- 6-year shelf life on the battery
- Non-hazardous battery may be airfreighted.
- Protected from inadvertent operation while in its bracket
For GMDSS compliance, the E5a 406MHz Satellite EPIRB
has a slimline fully enclosed float free housing. The McMurdo E5
EPIRB is also available with a quick release bulkhead mounting bracket
for carry-off situations, type E5m. In both cases the unit will
automatically operate if removed from the bracket and placed in
sea water.
